SoSA - Real Enough (produced by Beautiful Lou)
by Trill Smith
Although some may think otherwise, I do keep my ear out on the local rap scene. I’ve watched Sosa try and make a name for himself since that first Topic Of Discussion tape (Whatchamacallit still gets spins too). His nimble flow works well over Lou’s production but it shows more potential than anything else. I’m curious as to what these two can make that lasts longer than 3 minutes.
Can anyone think of a better waltz rap track than this? If my prospective spouse tried to stop me from having this as our bridal waltz I would find another prospective spouse.

Yes/No/Maybe - Floral Foam (Live MPC ReFlip)
Here is an ultra cool remix of Aoi’s Floral Foam and a new video to accompany it that everyone should watch. The dude you see hitting the MPC is Andrew a.k.a. Yes/No/Maybe, a friend and local beat maker from Melbourne. The clips projected onto Andrew are various snippets from videos that photographer Nicholas Dureau filmed whilst he was over in America last year. The combination of the two is magic. Have a look.

David Banner - Believe Ft. Big K.R.I.T
When Banner was in Melbourne a few weeks ago, he told us he was working with fellow Mississippian Big K.R.I.T. at the spectacular show we were all lucky enough to go to. He was ridiculously friendly and even took a picture of my K.R.I.T. shirt after the gig to tweet to the man himself. I can only hope Krizzle will come here one day in the not so distant future.
Anyway, here’s that collaboration we’ve been waiting for. As to be expected, they work well together and I hope it doesn’t end here. The fun sample is Jodeci from the song Love U 4 Life. DB’s Sex, Drugs and Video Games mixtape is due to be released on the 22/5 and has a shitload of features from Rocky to Wayne, Bun B to Snoop Dogg etc. etc. so probably best get your hands on it when it drops. I’m pretty sure he’ll be releasing stuff every week until then to keep us busy though.
Chief Keef - I Don’t Like Ft. Lil Reese
Up til now I’ve been admiring Chief Keef from a distance, equally impressed and unimpressed by his ability to win over a local scene, and the internet, on the back of one of the most abrasive, disjointed and sonically confusing tracks I’ve heard in a while. Call me a convert now though, “I Don’t Like” is menacing sing song trap rap done right (though I’m not sure it can really be done wrong).
Oh and if you don’t feel like you’ve gotten your fix of Chicago High School Hip Hop check out Shady’s “Go In”. Full of innocent, childish joie de vivre (and a casually brandished handgun.)

Check out “1993”. Beats are perhaps a little boring but all in all a great future talent and I look forward to some new material.
